With smartphones rapidly becoming the most common mobile device (设备) throughout countries, an increasing number of teenagers have access to the Internet using their phones. And if they have access to the Internet they have access to Apps (an App is a small program designed to run on mobile devices). Most Apps popular with teenagers are either for play, connecting with friends, or both at the same time. Here are some of the most popular Apps teens are downloading at the moment.

Draw Something

It's a very popular App at the moment. It's an online version (版本) of Pictionary, where you invite friends on to compete. Each round you are given 3 words to choose from of which you must draw. Your competitor must guess correctly so that both of you can receive coins to buy additional colour tools. Fun for any age.

Instagram

This App is about sharing photos. Similar to Twitter, you follow people and they follow you. New photos show up in a “news feed” where you can comment on photos. You can also view popular photos and have the choice of making your photos public (everyone can see them) and anyone can “follow” you. It's a good idea to consider privacy settings as once photos are uploaded (上传) anyone can have access to them.

Viddy

Similar to Instagram, except it's all about videos. Film a video and immediately upload it. Again people can follow you and you can follow people. You can see “what's hot” — the most popular and newest videos. In addition you can share videos you have.

Oldify

This is fun and easy to use. Upload a photo of yourself or a friend by either taking a photo or using one from your photo library, line up the eyes and lips, press a button and the photo of you or the person you uploaded will appear as a person 50 years older! By touching the screen the face will react.

Here on the island of Demesne, the humans call us “clones”. I call myself Elysia, because that’s what Dr. Lusardi told me to call myself. I started to exist just weeks ago. But I am a sixteen-year-old girl with no soul (灵魂). I know nothing of my First, the girl I was cloned from.

We entered a private room, just me, the fancy lady Mrs. Bratton, and Marisa.

The fancy lady pushes me with one of her fingers as one might poke (戳) a piece of fruit at the market. She gently pokes my flesh. She presses her hands against my back to test its firmness.

“She’s attractive,” she says.

Marisa warns her, “Mrs. Bratton, she is a Beta (a new product being tested by users). Dr. Lusardi has not perfected the teen line yet.”

“I guess that will be reflected (体现) in the price,” says Mrs. Bratton.

“Of course,” Marisa says. “Dr. Lusardi will be thrilled to know someone is willing to take a chance on a teen Beta.”

Mrs. Bratton looks at me, “What’s your name, dear?” “Elysia,” I say.

“I think you might make a wonderful addition to our household, Elysia. We’re so badly missing a teenage girl ever since Astrid, my eldest, went off to Biome University,” she says sadly.

“Congratulations,” I say, because I know that’s the appropriate thing to say to a parent whose child has studied in a wellknown university. “You must be very proud.”

Mrs. Bratton’s face brightens. “I am! But Astrid’s so hard-working that she seldom comes back to visit us. We miss her a lot. Would you like to come to my family?”

“Yes, ma’am,” I say.

Marisa sends me back into the store when she finishes the negotiations (协商) with Mrs. Bratton. I am to pick out some nice clothing to take to my new home, where I shall serve my new owner.

4.After entering the private room, the fancy lady ________. A.makes the introductions B.checks the clone’s quality C.offers some fruit to the guests D.exchanges greetings with others 5.Why is Mrs. Bratton so proud? A.Astrid studies very hard. B.She is going to visit Astrid. C.She can buy something at the store.

D.Her daughter Astrid has entered Biome University. 6.Who will be Elysia’s new owner? A.Dr. Lusardi. C.Mrs. Bratton.

B.Marisa. D.Astrid.

7.Where does this text probably come from? A.A research paper. C.An advertisement.

B.A personal diary. D.A science fiction story.

From self-driving cars to carebots for elderly people, rapid development in technology has long represented a possible threat to many jobs normally performed by people. But experts now believe that almost 50 percent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to change businesses.

“The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a revolution will necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces,” said Peter Andrew, Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific.

A growing number of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the ability to use artificial intelligence.

The report is based on interviews with 200 experts, business leaders and young people from Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. It shows that in the US technology already destroys more jobs than it creates.

But the report states: “Losing occupations does not necessarily mean losing jobs — just

changing what people do.” Growth in new jobs could occur as much, according to the research.

“The growth of 20 to 40 person companies that have the speed and technological know-how will directly challenge big companies,” it states.

A 2014 report by Pew Research found 52 percent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few years. The optimists pictured “a future in which robots do not take the place of more jobs than they create,” according to Aaron Smith, the report’s co-author.

“Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change,” Microsoft’s Jonathan Grudin told researchers.

8.We can infer from the text that in the future ________. A.people will face many difficulties B.people will take up more creative jobs

C.artificial intelligence will threaten people’s lives D.most jobs will be done in traditional workplaces 9.According to the report, ________. A.people won’t necessarily lose jobs B.big companies will face fewer challenges C.small companies will win against big companies D.most people will become interested in technology

10.What is the attitude of most experts in artificial intelligence and robotics to the future?

A.Mixed. C.Hopeful.

B.Worried. D.Doubtful.
