“Gone with the Wind” is one of the most popular works among American novels. The novel is set in North Georgia at the time of the American Civil War, from 1861 to 1865 and beyond when the Southern plantation owners fought the northern Yankees for the right to own slaves. The characters in the novel undergo the transition from a carefree playful life of picnics and parties (underlain by the hard graft of their slaves) to one of hand-to-mouth living and hard physical labor, and finally, back to prosperity.
In this novel, I admire Scarlett, the protagonist. I also like the sentence— tomorrow is another day. The novel takes the US Civil War as the background. It takes Scarlett’s individual activity as the thread. The book shows us a tragic love story .A couple who could have a perfect future, but finally go in opposite direction. As a matter of fact, their characteristics have decided their tragic result inevitably. We feel sorry about the end because we are looking forward to a perfect end, just like Scarlett and Rhett.
I think Scarlett should be together with Rhett. Rhett brings excitement to Scarlett’s life and encourages her impulse to change and succeed. He is humorous, intelligent and cynical with a hint of treason. He is really a respectable man. I think he finally left because of love. Otherwise, he couldn’t have gone without hesitation.
I'm moved by Scarlett. Heroine Scarlett is a simple but very complex figure. On the surface she has kinds of good quality, quiet, good-hearted, full of ability. Contacting her at first, I thought that she is just a beautiful, stubborn and proud princess. She is so beautiful that almost all the young men in the book are tempted by her. She has strong cravings in all the good things. War has changed Scarlett, and it also enables me to a better understanding toward her. She kills the Northern soldiers at the critical moment. It reflects her strong, courage, indomitable. In order to protect her families and industries, she had to get married with Frank Kennedy, which shows her spirit of sacrifice to us.
I think Scarlett is strong-hearted. At the beginning of the war, Scarlett didn’t care about this. In her world are endless dinner parties and dance parties. In her body are her father’s brave Irish blood and her mother’s noble French pure blood. She had a vast farm as her home. She had hundreds of slaves. However, the war changed everything. Her mother died of illness. Her father became silent and the farm was nearly deserted. Even food became a big problem. All the pressure was put on Scarlett’s shoulder. She must feed a family of 9 people in it. What a big difference of level. If all this happened to someone else, he or she may choose to escape. On the contrary, Scarlett chose to face the change of life bravely. How can we not admire her courage.
I am so deeply shocked by the indomitable spirit of Scarlett facing difficulties. But to attain her end by hook, I feel offensive. And I am so angry with her infatuation attitude to Ashley Wilkes. While the more care Rhett Butler give to Scarlett, the more joy I get. But at last, Rhett fell disappointment and left Scarlett, what a pity!
It is obvious that <> is really a good book, even if a long time has passed away, it is still suitable for today’s society. It is of great importance to change ourselves, change our value even our thoughts when our life changes. In a conclusion, I think 'Gone with the Wind' is a book full of love and courage. It is absolutely a good book that is worth sampling repeatedly, the characters are graceful, the plot rises and falls, exciting boldly. It makes me strong. Whenever I meet difficulty, the mood is not good, I will tell myself: \" Tomorrow is another day. \"
