Should Public Libraries Keep Open?
When I an on my way home every weekend and see the giant National Library sitting beside the entrance of the subway, I wonder is there anyone reading a book in that tall building? The empty parking lot may has given me an answer. The controversial argument I shall put forward is should we keep the public libraries open or not.
There is a firm concept especially in educated ones that a local library is a symbol of wisdom of their people. Library is, as it has been in the past centuries, a good place for people to educate themselves, taking the advantage that it has countless books. But what is the last time you went to a public library? Ill you go that far to check for some information that can be easily got with your computer? Definitely, it is inefficiency and now, we are in an other age.
The historical duty of libraries has come to an end, because of the emergency of new tools have replaced their function to serve people. Take the main educating service for example, google your key words, you will get abundant information to fulfill your requirement, or just ask Wikipedia for a formal answer. This is the same as reading, reading a book with your Kindle and iPad will be more convenient and thus, help you get rid of the annoying problems like when will the library lose and when should I return this book. For what I have seen, public library has become a place for people who have nowhere to study or to read a book.
Take all that above into account, there is no reason for us to keep a place we hardly use open. We should celebrate that we ate in an information-rich society and say, through sorrowfully, farewell to public libraries.
